Texts from Dad

I created this piece a few months into quarantine. I was spending most of my days inside, in one of two rooms, working on my senior thesis project. Most of my contact with the world existed through my phone, and most of that through text messages. Although my conversation with most people became stunted during this time, my text conversations with my dad, living six hours away, only became more frequent. Soon they were a huge fabric that made a pattern for my listless days in isolation. This piece uses recordings I made of text messages my dad sent me over a few weeks, layered over the soft sounds I made and heard as I worked on my project. It is a project which may never be finished—because the conversation will never end
